Boonville Set For Solar Project

Both businesses have experience in green development.

The city of Boonville is moving forward on a four-acre solar farm to power its new sewage treatment plant. Mayor Charlie Wyatt tells the Courier & Press the project is expected to save the city $6 million over the next 30 years.

The solar farm will be located south of the sewage treatment plant and include 1,900 panels to generate the power. The mayor says a net metering agreement with Evansville-based Vectren Corp. (NYSE: VVC) will contribute to the city’s savings by selling back excess power to the utility.

The Boonville Board of Works has awarded the winning construction bid for the project to Casey Electric, whose proposal totaled $880,000. Our partners at WEHT-TV report the Tell City-based solar electric contract expects work on the project to begin around next spring.

Wyatt says the solar farm has been more than two years in the making. The project is being funded through a nearly $9 million bond issued in 2016 to fund construction of the sewer plant, as well as from cost savings associated with that project, according to the publication.
