Leaders of the massive River Ridge Commerce Center in southeast Indiana are touting a study that shows the development has a billion-dollar impact on the region's economy. The research from Policy Analytics LLC also says the center in Jeffersonville supported more than 9,100 jobs last year. Marketing and Finance Director Paul Wheatley says major projects involving Amazon.com Inc. (Nasdaq: AMZN), Catamaran Corp. (Nasdaq: CTRX) and American Fuji Seal Inc. helped fuel the growth. He believes ample land with river, interstate and rail access will continue to attract business.

American Fuji Seal, wich has an operation in Kentucky, announced plans last year for a large development at the center. In July, Amazon detailed its hiring expectations, including new jobs in Jeffersonville. Catamaran opened its operation at River Ridge in October. The company plans to create more than 200 jobs at the facility by 2015.

Wheatley says River Ridge has sold about 500 acres of property, which is about 9 percent of the center's total space. He says executives “definitely don't see this slowing down.”
