Evansville-based Old National Bancorp Chief Executive Officer Bob Jones has been appointed chairman of an influential banking industry group. The American Bankers Council is an advisory arm of the Washington D.C.-based American Banker’s Association focused on regulatory and legislative issues important to mid-sized banks.

ABA President Rob Nichols says "midsize banks are critical economic drivers, and this council will benefit tremendously from Bob’s leadership in this space. His depth of knowledge and experience will be a tremendous asset."

Jones, who also serves as chairman of the Old National board, has led the banking institution since 2004 and previously worked for KeyCorp for 25 years.

The ABA bills itself as "the voice of the nation’s $17 trillion banking industry," which employs more than two million workers.
