The board says the Technical Advisory Committee will be comprised of national independent assessment experts.
The committee will be tasked with monitoring development of the ISTEP+ test and helping the state avoid past issues including excessive test length, scoring problems, and differences between online and paper exams.
In a release, State Board of Education Vice Chair Sarah O’Brien said, "Many of the current ISTEP+ issues could have been avoided had the experts been engaged at the beginning of the process. This should improve the testing experience for students, parents and teachers in the future."
During its monthly meeting, the board also received updates on turnaround academies from Indianapolis Public Schools and Charter Schools USA and approved grants for schools to purchase K-2 testing.
The board’s next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 29.
