The Indianapolis Charter School Board has approved a proposal to establish a school for students in the justice system. The Francis Marion Academy would have one location inside the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center and another nearby. June 3, 2014

Background information provided by the office of Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard

Francis Marion Academy: This school's mission is to serve students inside the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center and establish a second location outside of the Juvenile Detention Center to continue serving those students and other at-risk young people. The school plans to work collaboratively with the juvenile justice system to ensure that students who have been involved in the juvenile system or are at a high risk of being expelled are given the opportunity to redefine themselves and their life choices to become positive, contributing members of the community with a realistic pathway towards an economically self-sufficient life after high school.
