This is the first time the board has been allowed to vote for its own chairperson, thanks to legislation passed by the Indiana General Assembly. McCormick was elected to the state superintendent position in November, defeating incumbent Glenda Ritz. The board had been chaired by Ritz, which was the responsibility of the superintendent prior to this year.
