The Indiana Historical Society has named Jody Blankenship its next president and chief executive officer. He will succeed longtime leader John Herbst, who is retiring at the end of the year. Herbst has been IHS president and CEO since 2006.
Blankenship currently serves as CEO of the Connecticut Historical Society. His previous experience includes time as education director of the Kentucky Historical Society and as manager of the Ohio Historical Society’s outreach and field services department.
Board Chair David Evans says the addition of Blankenship "has been a source of excitement for us." He adds "his energy, enthusiasm and instinct, along with his commitment to history and passion for excellence, will continue our work to take IHS to new heights. We are poised to connect even more people with Indiana’s past – something that will inform our present and shape our future."
Blankenship, whose first day with IHS will be January 21, holds degrees from the State University of New York and Ohio Northern University.
