Several media outlets, including our partners at WTHR-TV in Indianapolis, are reporting Bird will step down from the position and remain with the team as a consultant.
WTHR also reported last week that current Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Kevin Pritchard will take on oversight of the team’s basketball operations. Aside from a year absence in 2012 to take care of health concerns, Bird has served in leadership roles including head coach and president of basketball operations for the organization for the last 20 years. He’s a member of the Indiana Basketball Hall or Fame for his successes at Springs Valley High School in southern Indiana and Indiana State University, as well as a member of the National Basketball Hall of Fame from his time with the Boston Celtics.
The team will be streaming the news conference live Monday morning at 11 a.m. from Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
