Marion City Council has approved a $60 million financing deal for a development on 164 acres near Interstate 69 and State Road 18. The Chronicle-Tribune reports plans for the land include a multipurpose arena and medical offices. The request for the bond was made by a company called 18/69 Land Development LLC.

The project was almost derailed when Council President Joselyn Whitticker said she was sending the ordinance back to committee. Council members ultimately decided to suspend rules requiring three approvals for a project.

One opponent said the development was not necessary, saying it is already close to Marion High School's Bill Green Athletic Arena and Marion General Hospital.
