News Release

Indianapolis – Mayor Greg Ballard today announced the appointment of Brad Beaubien as the Acting Director of the City’s Department of Metropolitan Development. Beaubien, 37, is a native of Sioux City, IA, and has lived in Indianapolis since 2001.

Beaubien currently serves as the City’s Department of Metropolitan Development Long-Range Planning Administrator, a position he has held since 2013, and is responsible for urban planning, including comprehensive, neighborhood, and transportation planning. Beaubien first worked for the Department of Metropolitan Development from 2001 – 2003 working on the Regional Center Plan, the City’s long-range plan for the downtown area. He previously served as Director of Ball State University’s College of Architecture & Planning Indianapolis Center, where he helped immerse students in real-world projects in neighborhoods across Indianapolis.

“I am pleased that we are able to have someone with Brad’s experience and knowledge of Indianapolis lead the Department of Metropolitan Development through the remainder of my term,” said Mayor Greg Ballard. “We still have a lot of work to do for Indianapolis, and Brad meets the high expectations our City has for DMD.”

Beaubien is a graduate of Ball State University in Muncie, IN, and holds a Bachelor of Urban Planning and Development (2000, Summa Cum Laude) as well as a Master of Urban and Regional Planning (2001). He is currently pursuing a Master of Natural Resources degree from Oregon State University.

“I am excited to take on the role of Acting Director of the Department of Metropolitan Development and am honored by the Mayor’s confidence,” said Beaubien. “The City of Indianapolis welcomed me many years ago and I look forward to working with all of our Department’s community partners to build a city that is a vibrant and authentic place to call home with opportunities for all our residents to thrive.”

In 2013 Beaubien was recognized by the Indianapolis Business Journal in its Forty Under 40 and is a member of the Stanley K. Lacy Executive Leadership Class 38. He previously served on the King Park Area Development Board of Directors where he was active in leading beautification, public safety, and housing redevelopment efforts. He currently lives in the Broad Ripple area.

Beaubien will be Interim Director effective July 27, 2015.
