Battery maker eyes Terre Haute for $1B project

Vigo County could be in line for a billion-dollar investment that would create about 640 manufacturing jobs. Our partners at WTWO-TV report an as-yet unnamed material sciences company has expressed interest in purchasing 340 acres of the former Pfizer property at the Vigo County Industrial Park Two in Terre Haute.
Terre Haute Economic Development Corp. President Steve Witt says a U.S.-based company is looking for a location to produce components for batteries.
Witt says more information about the project will come during a meeting of the Vigo County Redevelopment Commission in three weeks.
“On March 21, the commission will gather and open the company’s bid, we call it, even though we know what they’re going to offer for the acreage and then additional details about the project, including the company’s identity, will be revealed at that time,” Witt said.
Drug maker Pfizer Inc. closed its Terre Haute plant in 2009 after six decades in the city.
