Ball State Names Center After Former UPS CEO

Ball State University has named its Logistics and Supply Chain Management Center after a former chief executive officer of United Parcel Service Inc. (NYSE: UPS). The university says the move honors Kent "Oz" Nelson for his career and "lasting impact on the university and the Miller College of Business."

Nelson graduated from Ball State in 1969 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and was given an honorary doctorate of law in 1994. Nelson served as chairman and CEO of UPS from 1989 to 1996.

Nelson is a member of the Ball State Foundation Board of Directors, as well as the Miller College Dean’s Executive Board.

The decision to name the center after Nelson followed a $1.2 million campaign that included support from Upland-based Avis Industrial Corp. and a gift from Nelson. Ball State says the funds raised through the campaign will be used to support case study competitions and other hands-on experience for students.

Ball State will formally dedicate the Kent C. "Oz" Nelson Logistics and Supply Chain Management Center in September.
