Ball State, Grand to Be Honored at Indiana Society Gala

The organization will honor award recipients including Ball State University and Barnes & Thornburg LLP Managing Partner Robert Grand during the December event at the Renaissance Chicago Downtown.
The more than century-old social organization is also planning what it calls livelier entertainment, featuring the dance band The Doo and a special guest performance by Broadway and television star Sutton Foster.
The Indiana Society of Chicago, billed as an organization "celebrating all things Hoosier," was founded more than 100 years ago by writer George Ade, Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist John T. McCutcheon and federal court clerk Edward M. Holloway. The group gathers every year on the first Saturday in December for a black-tie gala to celebrate Indiana individuals and organizations.
Ball State University is being honored as the 2018 Institution of the Year. President Geoffrey Mearns will accept the award on behalf of the school. Grand will receive the 2018 Hoosier of the Year award. The group will also honor Noblesville teacher Jason Seaman, who intervened when a student opened fire in his classroom in May.
Governor Eric Holcomb and First Lady Janet Holcomb, a Ball State graduate, will also attend the gala. Proceeds from the event will help fund scholarships for Chicago-area students attending Ball State.
