Auto Supplier Investing Heavily in Greensburg

The automotive lock component manufacturer is looking to launch three new production lines over the next two years and could add 30 jobs as a result.
GECOM, a subsidiary of Mitsui Kinzoku ACT of Japan, currently employs 900 in Decatur County. Construction on the first new line is underway and is expected to be complete by the end of the year and lines two and three are slated to be operational in 2019. The additional capacity will allow GECOM to increase production of door lock and latch components for Honda, Chrysler, Toyota and Subaru.
Chief Compliance Officer Jeff Wright says "Greensburg, Indiana, was selected as a manufacturing location in 1987 based on the proximity to most of our customers. The point remains true today. Our customers appreciate seeing GECOM’s commitment to stay in Indiana and the benefits it provides them. Additionally, the local Hoosier workforce is dedicated to GECOM’s success and work hard to maintain our reputation of quality automotive products at a competitive price. GECOM’s is currently hiring and the planned new positions include research, development and production jobs. The company has been offered up to $280,000 in conditional tax incentives through the Indiana Economic Development Corp. The IEDC says GECOM is among more than 260 Japanese businesses in Indiana that, in-all, employ more than 53,000 Hoosiers.
