The parent of Highland-based Strack & Van Til is once again looking for a buyer. Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report a rescheduled auction for the remaining 19 stores and additional facilities began Tuesday after last week’s attempt yielded no successful bids.
The auction, which is being conducted by New York-based law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, also includes the Ultra Foods store in Merrillville, the Strack & Van Til corporate headquarters in Highland and the Strack central bakery in Valparaiso.
Illinois-based Central Grocers Inc. is looking to offload the properties, along with its 930,000 square-foot warehouse in Illinois, after filing for bankruptcy in May. Chicago-based Jewel-Osco put in an initial $100 million bid for the remaining Strack & Van Til stores later that month.
The Times says Central Grocers has not disclosed any information about the number of bidders or the amount being bid in the auction. A separate auction last week for the 11 remaining Ultra Foods stores, including two in Indiana, was also unsuccessful and was adjourned to a later date.
