News Release
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – As part of its continuing network investment and ongoing 4G LTE rollout, AT&T has upgraded 29 additional mobile Internet cell sites in Gibson, Posey, Vanderburgh and Warrick counties to expand AT&T 4G LTE coverage for area residents, businesses and travelers. Areas included in the expansion are parts of Boonville, Fort Branch, Haubstadt, Marrs Center, Mount Vernon, Newburgh, Oakland City, Wadesville and northeast of Harmonie State Park. Other locations in the Evansville area include portions along I-69, I-164, Highway 41, State Road 62 and State Road 66.
AT&T has the nation's fastest and most reliable 4G LTE network. AT&T 4G LTE is the latest generation of wireless network technology and provides several benefits for local residents, including faster mobile Internet speeds, improved performance, reliability and innovative new 4G LTE-compatible devices.
AT&T launched its ultra-fast 4G LTE network in Evansville in March 2013. The new cell sites are one part of AT&T's ongoing efforts to expand 4G LTE coverage and to drive investment and innovation to deliver the nation’s best, most advanced mobile Internet experience for customers.
“Investments in mobile Internet technologies are key to growth in areas like small business, high-tech manufacturing and agriculture,” said State Sen. Jim Tomes. “Both consumers and businesses in our corner of the state are sure to experience immediate benefits.”
“In a global economy, Hoosiers are doing business with companies all over the world using wireless devices that fit in the palm of their hand,” said Christy Gillenwater, president & CEO of The Chamber of Commerce of Southwest Indiana. “Enabling residents and businesses in Southwest Indiana to access the fastest wireless speeds available will allow them to stay on the leading edge of economic growth opportunities in the coming years.”
“Our goal is for our customers to have an extraordinary experience, and they'll be able to download, upload, stream and game faster than ever before on our 4G LTE network,” said Bill Soards, president of AT&T Indiana. “As part of the southwestern Indiana community, we’re always looking for new opportunities to provide enhanced coverage, and our investment in the local wireless network is another way we’re accomplishing that.”
AT&T’s 4G Network
This upgrade is part of AT&T’s Project Velocity IP (VIP), a three-year investment plan announced last fall to expand and enhance its IP broadband networks. Through this investment, AT&T is supporting its customers’ growing desire for high-speed Internet access and new mobile, app and cloud-based services. As part of Project VIP, AT&T plans to add more than 10,000 macro cell sites nationwide by year-end 2015, as well as deploy more than 40,000 small cells and add more than 1,000 Distributed Antenna Systems to increase the density of its wireless network.
