AT&T Expands, Tests Technologies in Indiana AT&T is hoping to roll out a global 5G ecosystem by the end of the year.

Several Indiana communities are included in AT&T Inc.’s (NYSE: T) most recent 5G expansion, and testing of other technologies. The company’s 5G Evolution technology has been launched in 117 new markets.

The 5G Evolution now includes Anderson, Bloomington, Evansville, Kokomo, Miami, Muncie, Terre Haute and Warren. Indianapolis had previously been included. AT&T President of Technology & Operations, Melissa Arnoldi says the technology provides real and immediate benefits. “We’re building a 5G network that will fundamentally change the way the world lives and works,”  “5G will provide a wireless experience that is faster, more responsive and more secure for our customers.” The company plans to expand the technology to over 500 markets this year, including in New York City, Denver, and Washington D.C.

LTE-LAA was also expanded to 3 new markets, with 7 markets now having the technology, including Indianapolis. AT&T previously launched around Lucas Oil Stadium, The Loop in Chicago, downtown LA, and the Financial District in San Fransicso. LTE-LAA delivers theoretical peak speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second. Plans call for expansion to 24 new markets this year.

The company also plans to expand Mobile 5G after over a year of testing. Their first 5G trial, the industry’s first, was launched in Austin, then expanded to South Bend, Kalamazoo, Michigan and Waco, Texas.
