AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) is expanding its ultra-fast Internet service in northwest Indiana. The company has launched AT&T GigaPower in homes, apartments and small businesses in parts of Munster and St. John.

The company previously made the GigaPower service available in parts of Crown Point, Gary and Hammond. AT&T says the GigaPower Network allows for Internet speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second, allowing for improved online streaming, connecting to the cloud and videoconferencing.

"More and more people in our community expect this type of service and this kind of speed," said Munster Town Manager Dustin Anderson. "Many businesses view this as a necessity in order to grow their market and customer base. We’re excited about the launch of this new AT&T fiber-based service."

State Rep. Bill Fine (R-12) says having the high-speed Internet option will help attract future residents and businesses. AT&T also announced plans to launch the GigaPower service in Indianapolis in December.
