The new test allows users to drop a saliva sample into a cup instead of receiving a nasal swab.
Aria Diagnostics President Vipin Adhlakha says the company has been collecting saliva using the “Quicksal” technology for the past six weeks.
“This new method also stabilizes the collected specimen in ways that had been unable to be achieved through prior saliva collection methods, providing the necessary conditions to accurately detect the presence or absence of the virus,” said Adhlakha.
Adhlakha says the nasal swab is still the most used widely used and reliable method to test for COVID, but says it has proven uncomfortable for many, including children. The new method allows users to swirl a mouth-rinse and spit into a collection tube.
“We are able to provide this reliable, comfortable PCR test as we have with our drive through nasopharyngeal tests, so you schedule and provide your information on-line or by calling our scheduling line, drive to our testing sites and have the test performed, never having to leave your car,” said Adhlakha.
Aria will hold the drive-through testing at these locations and dates/times:
