Sarah Hempstead, who has been with the firm since 2001, succeeds Wayne Schmidt, who stepped down last month.
Hempstead, a graduate of Ball State University, says the firm’s "core DNA" will remain the same following the transition. Schmidt, who founded the firm in 1976, will remain chairman of the board and the principal-in-charge of the firm’s community studio.
"The first 40 years have been incredible and that suggests the next 40 are going to be even better," said Schmidt. "The firm is well positioned for the future with the partnerships and the leadership of Sarah as CEO. We are extraordinarily lucky. I am confident she will take the firm places that I could never imagine."
Hempstead has been involved in the design and creative work for several projects in Indiana, including the addition and renovation of Ivy Tech Community College’s Illinois Fall Creek Center in Indianapolis, the Regenstrief Institute Headquarters in Indianapolis and the Bloomington headquarters of Hoosier Energy.
