A global steel company says a large blast furnace at an East Chicago facility will be offline for months. Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report ArcelorMittal says stove repairs will idle the Indiana Harbor West No. 3 blast furnace and help the operation meet “future customer demand.” ArcelorMittal spokeswoman Mary Beth Holdford says the outage is expected to last until late into the second quarter.

The No. 4 and No. 7 blast furnaces will continue operating as they normally do.

The company employs nearly 5,000 workers in northwest Indiana.
