Indianapolis-based Apex Benefits, a benefits strategy and services provider, has hired former Indiana Secretary of State and U.S. Congressman Todd Rokita as general counsel and vice president of external affairs. In this executive role, he will oversee corporate legal strategies and serve as a representative for the company and an advocate for its customers by leading public policy initiatives throughout Indiana and the nation.

As general counsel, Rokita will lead all internal and external legal functions for the company. He practiced law for several years before entering politics, representing the interests of Indiana businesses and individuals in state and federal courts. Rokita served as one of Indiana’s U.S. Congressmen, representing Indiana’s Fourth Congressional District from 2011 to 2019, and as Indiana’s Secretary of State from 2003 to 2011.

In Congress, he was a subcommittee chairman on one of only three House committees with jurisdiction over the nation’s healthcare system. Rokita was also vice chairman of the powerful House Committee on the Budget, while also serving ‘The Crossroads of America’ on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.

He is a graduate of Wabash College and earned his Juris Doctorate from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law.
