Anthem, Cigna Merger Passes Hurdle

The commissioner of the Indiana Department of Insurance has approved Indianapolis-based Anthem Inc.’s (NYSE: ANTM) proposed acquisition of Cigna Corp. (NYSE: CI). Stephen Robertson signed the final order this week giving his approval of the $54 billion merger.
In the order Robertson stated he must receive written notice of the closing of the acquisition within five days after the closing date. Both companies must also perform a cybersecurity review to ensure the acquisition does not result in the transfer of malware.
In December, the shareholders for both companies approved the merger. Both companies expect the deal to close in the second half of 2016.
