Indianapolis-based Anthem Inc. (NYSE: ANTM) has announced the completion of its acquisition of Beacon Health Options, a behavioral health organization based in Boston.
Anthem says Beacon serves more than 36 million people across all 50 states. It will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Anthem says the addition of Beacon will strengthen its portfolio of specialized products. For consumers, it will mean broader provider networks.
“Consumers and health plan customers alike will benefit from our ability to scale and integrate physical and behavioral capabilities in new and meaningful ways to improve lives.” said Gail Boudreaux, Anthem president and chief executive officer.
Anthem also announced its philanthropic arm, the Anthem Foundation, will award a $100,000 grant to Mental Health America.
MHA is community-based nonprofit that helps to address the needs of people living with mental illness.
The Anthem Foundation says the money is earmarked for a free, online screening platform offered by MHA.
The anonymous screening service helps 1 million people annually.
