FCA says its plants across the U.S. and Canada, including facilities in Kokomo and Tipton, will remain closed until at least April 14.
The automaker says the length of the closure will be dependent upon the various stay at home orders currently in effect in the states in which it operates.
“The Company continues to work collaboratively with the UAW and Unifor to expand upon the extensive program of cleaning and social distancing protocols that already have been implemented across all of our facilities to safeguard our employees,” FCA said in a statement Thursday.
FCA’s Mopar Parts Distribution Centers will remain open with paid volunteers. The company says those facilities have been deemed essential to keeping first responders and commercial vehicles on the road.
Over the last week, other vehicle manufacturers have extended their temporary production shutdown orders as well, including Toyota, Honda and Subaru, all of which have facilities in Indiana.
