A proposed 2015 budget for the city of Anderson includes more than $2 million for economic development efforts. Our partners at The Herald Bulletin report the spending plan also calls for an across-the-board salary increase for employees. Controller Jason Fenwick says the proposed 1 percent raise includes elected officials, but many have said they do not want it.

One of the big challenges the central Indiana city faces is the amount of revenue it receives from Hoosier Park Casino.

The revenues have been down the previous 18 months.

Fenwick says the casino and horse track paid the city $250,000 a month in 2011; this year, the monthly average is $220,000.

City officials held the first of two hearings for the budget Monday.
