Sharon Smith

The American College of Sports Medicine has hired Sharon Smith as media and public relations manager. She most recently served as communications director at the Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center. While there, she led external communications for the State Fairgrounds, including the Indiana State Fair, the state’s largest multi-day event.

“Sharon is a seasoned professional and will be highly successful leading our external communication efforts,” said Paul Branks, ACSM’s vice president of integrated marketing communications. “ACSM is the recognized leader in sports medicine and exercise science, and we have a great story to tell. Sharon is uniquely qualified to share that story with the many stakeholders that benefit from our members’ work.”

In her new role, Smith will lead the media and public relations efforts for the largest sports medicine and exercise science organization in the world. She has more than 25 years of successful experience in public relations and marketing communications. In addition to the State Fairgrounds, she has operated her own award-winning PR firm, Maverick Public Relations, and held positions with Riverview Hospital, Topics Newspapers/The Daily Ledger and Noblesville Main Street Inc.
