Indianapolis-based Ambrose Property Group has hired James Thurston as chief financial officer. He is the founder of Thurston Advisory & Consulting, where he spent the last two years helping several commercial real estate and other clients maximize operational efficiencies or setting the foundations for growth.

Thurston’s prior real estate roles include serving as chief accounting officer at General Growth Properties where he participated in the post-bankruptcy turnaround of the nation’s second largest mall owner. He also led various international accounting and finance functions over a 10-year period at Simon Property Group.

Thurston holds a Bachelor of Arts in accounting from Michigan State University and earned his Master of Business Administration from Northwestern University – Kellogg School of Management. He holds both his CPA and CGMA designations.
