Seattle-based Amazon.com Inc. (Nasdaq: AMZN) is planning to open a new delivery station in the Hoosier state. Amazon Logistics says the Fort Wayne station will create hundreds of jobs and power the company’s delivery capabilities to speed up deliveries for customers Allen County.
Amazon says the full-time and part-time jobs will pay a minimum of $15 per hour and offer a variety of benefits packages from day one.
“We are proud to partner with Amazon as they expand their footprint in Indiana,” said Mayor Tom Henry. “The new Amazon Delivery Station will bring additional jobs, revenue and growth to our community. This is a great win for our local workforce, entrepreneurs, and our citizens.”
Amazon is occupying a 150,000-square-foot shell building near Fort Wayne International Airport. The facility was developed by a joint venture between South Bend-based Great Lakes Capital and The Hagerman Group, which has a local office in Fort Wayne.
Amazon says its delivery stations enable it to supplement capacity and flexibility for its overall delivery capabilities.
Amazon expects the site to open this year.
