AM General Scores Major Army Contract

South Bend-based AM General LLC has landed another major U.S. Department of Defense contract. The five-year, $2.2 billion deal calls for the company to manufacture nearly 12,000 Humvees for the U.S. Army.
AM General says it will provide a variety of High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles, or HMMWVs, including protected weapons carriers, cargo transporters, communications vehicles and ambulances.
"The HMMWV continues to be the most sought after light tactical vehicle for military and government customers around the world demonstrating its relevance and reliability while ensuring readiness at an affordable price for the U.S., our allies and coalition partners," Andy Hove, chief executive officer of AM General, said in a news release. "Today’s contract announcement once again highlights the HMMWV as a modern, proven, highly deployable, versatile, rugged and affordable light tactical vehicle."
AM General says more than 250,000 Humvees are currently in use throughout the world.
The contract is the latest for AM General, which in June received a $30.5 million contract for Humvee engines, along with a $41.6 million deal for more than 200 Humvees.
