Aluminum Manufacturer Expanding in North Liberty

Illinois-based Hydro Extrusion North America is planning to expand its operations in St. Joseph County. The South Bend Tribune reports the company will invest $9.5 million on new equipment and renovations for its facility in North Liberty.
The North Liberty Town Council has approved a 10-year, $1.1 million tax abatement for the project. Company officials said it was possible the plant could have closed if the project did not move forward, according to the publication.
Hydro Extrusion provides design, manufacturing, fabrication, surface treatment, and finishing services for aluminum products. The company says part of the investment in the North Liberty plant will include the addition of a $2.5 million extrusion press and $1 million in renovations that will include the construction of a new maintenance building.
The company, which employs 180 at the facility, says the project will result in new jobs, though a specific number was not given. A request for comment from Inside INdiana Business was not immediately returned.
