Media Relations Manager Andy Klotz says the $63 million renovation is on budget and three months ahead of schedule. He says tenant agreements with IUPUI men's basketball and Indy Fuel hockey are crucial because they provide revenue streams “for years and years.” The first scheduled event at the renovated venue is a women's symposium April 26. Klotz says work continues to find a naming rights partner for the facility. Former sponsor PepsiCo Inc.'s (NYSE: PEP) deal expired at the end of 2012.
He says the coliseum is also built for agricultural events, including rodeos, livestock shows and horse shows.
The grand re-opening event is set for Thursday, April 24 at 11:00 a.m., followed by tours of the building. There will also be a public open house that day from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
The coliseum opened in 1939. Improvements to the 75-year-old facility include a hanging overhead scoreboard and upgraded concourses.
