Allegion Americas already employs more than 500 in Carmel and moved its North American HQ to the city in 2013. Its Schlage Lock Co. LLC subsidiary has acquired a building just south of the current offices. It is seeking 10-year tax abatement from the city, pending City Council approval.
Senior Vice President and President of the Americas Tim Eckersley says "Allegion’s Carmel employees are innovators – and many help lead our product development globally, especially in terms of the electro-mechanical convergence trend in the security industry. We’re excited to expand here, as we continue to draw from a technologically-advanced workforce that pushes forward on our mission to make the world a safer place as a company of experts."
The city says the new jobs are expected to be filled by the end of 2020 and pay an average salary of $83,000. In 2013, Allegion PLC spun-off from Ingersoll-Rand PLC (NYSE: IR), which used to have a presence in Carmel. The current facilities house engineering, marketing and communications, legal, information technology, finance and human resources employees. The company’s portfolio includes over 25 brands. The parent company is based in Ireland and has a footprint that includes nearly 130 countries.
A year ago, Schlage also announced plans to add some 150 jobs in Marion County as part of a $13 million investment. The subsidiary and regional parent employ more than 1,000 in central Indiana.
