Air Show Set For Comeback

After a three-year absence, a reborn air show will take to the skies over central Indiana. The Indy Air Expo is scheduled for next month at the Indianapolis Regional Airport in Mt. Comfort, which was the site of the old Indianapolis Air Show.
The previous iteration was canceled prior to its 2013 scheduled date. Organizers pointed to the federal Sequestration measures that involved a major reduction in military funding. Several shows throughout the state, including Evansville and Kokomo, made tweaks to their typical lineups, but continued on. In Indy and Gary, the shows were canceled all-together. Gary Air Show organizers attempted to revive and rebrand the event in 2014 at a different location, Fair Oaks Farms. The South Shore Airshow effort failed due to what the South Shore Convention and Visitors Bureau cited as conditions that were too damp from rain in weeks leading up to the event. Last year, Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson announced the return of the Gary Air Show to the shores of Lake Michigan.
The 2016 Indy Air Expo will support Shriners Hospitals for Children in Cincinnati, Lexington, Chicago and St. Louis. The Murat Shriners in Indianapolis are one of the primary financial backers of the four Midwestern Shriners Hospitals.
