General David Goldfein, chief of staff of the U.S. Air Force, joined Senators Joe Donnelly (D-IN) and Todd Young (R-IN), and Congressman Trey Hollingsworth (R-9) for a tour of Naval Support Activity Crane.
Gen. Goldfein is the highest ranking officer in the Air Force and a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The tour included visits to several laboratories on base and the general had the chance to speak with uniformed and civilian personnel on site. Donnelly’s office says the discussions included Crane’s growing support for the Air Force and potential avenues for an increased Air Force presence at the base.
"Crane’s cutting edge work provides our warfighters with the tools they need to succeed," Donnelly said in a news release. "I’m so proud to have brought General Goldfein here to see firsthand Crane’s growing work for the Air Force and discuss how we can build a permanent Air Force presence at Crane in the future."
Goldfein thanked the men and women for their work at Crane, which he called "absolutely essential."
The visit was the latest from a top government official at Crane. In June 2016, then-Secretary of Defense Ash Carter paid a visit to the base and called it a "national treasure."
