Subscribe NowIowa-based Grain Processing Corp. has broken ground on an expansion project in Daviess County, which has been more than four years in the making. The company is investing $70 million to expand its Washington plant, which could create up to 20 jobs when complete.
Plans for the expansion were first announced in late 2014. GPC is growing its operations due to increasing demand for its MALTRIN products, which the company says are "high-quality, corn based ingredients used in numerous food, pharmaceutical, and personal care applications."
"We are very fortunate that Kent Corporation and its owners have made this significant investment at GPC Washington," said John Dudenhoeffer, plant manager for the Washington facility. "This is a clear indication of their confidence in our community, whether it would be the producers selling us corn, those transporting and warehousing our products, local economic development, or our employees."
The jobs created by the expansion will include production and maintenance positions. GPC says the new production capacity is expected to be operational in 2021.
