Adams County School Advances in STEAM Contest

A middle school in Adams County has won the state level of the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow Contest. South Adams Middle School is now working to become one of 10 national finalists in the competition, which aims to "challenge students to creatively use STEAM skills to address real-world issues and inspire change in their local communities."

The school’s team, led by STEM Club adviser and teacher Kim LeFever, is developing lighting solutions for Amish buggies to increase road safety at night, according to the school’s website. For winning the state level of the contest, the team will receive a $25,000 technology prize package for the school.

The team now has until February 13 to produce and submit a video presentation demonstrating the project and how it addresses a real-world issue. Ten national finalists will be chosen to take part in a pitch event where three grand prize winners will be named. The winners will each receive a $150,000 Samsung technology package.
