Illinois Street Senior Apartments, redeveloped by TWG Development LLC, includes 63 units and was supported by city and federal grants.
The city invested $425,000 from HOME Investment Partnerships Program funds and nearly $215,000 in Neighborhood Stabilization Program dollars into the project. The building, located at 1352 N. Illinois Street on the city’s near north side, used to be the home of Fame Laundry Co.
Department of Metropolitan Development Director Emily Mack said at a grand opening ceremony last week "from the moment TWG Development approached us with the idea of turning the once-vacant building at 13th and Illinois into a quality, affordable senior community, we knew supporting this effort was going to leave a lasting impact on our city. We are so grateful we had the opportunity to support it – not only does this facility help us meet the demand for affordable, quality and safe senior housing in our city, it did so by redeveloping an existing building and saving a piece of Indianapolis’ history.”
TWG Vice President John Sullivan called the projects "one of the coolest" the company has taken on "it definitely could not have moved forward without the support of the city. Not only did they support us financially, but they were a true partner throughout the entire process."
