The work involves tearing down the old Delaney and Concord housing projects in the Lake County city. The properties include a total of more than 250 vacant units.
Funding for the work comes from a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Capital Fund Emergency Safety and Security Grant that was awarded earlier this year. When the funding was announced, Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson said 4,000-5,000 structures in the city still needed to be demolished.
Monday’s news conference will include Freeman-Wilson, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Regional Administrator Joseph Galvan and Gary Housing Authority Director Julian Marsh.
