INDIANAPOLIS – Illinois-based AAR Aircraft Services Inc., which has a large maintenance facility in Indianapolis, has been awarded a nearly $9 million order.

The contract provides for maintenance and repair of four P-8A Poseidon aircraft used by the U.S. Navy.

The Department of Defense says the work will be performed in Indianapolis and is expected to be completed in December 2020.

The P-8 is often used for anti-submarine warfare and shipping interdiction roles. It’s capable of carrying and deploying torpedoes, anti-ship missiles and other weapons.

It can also be used to drop and monitor sonobuoys.

The Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, Maryland, is the contracting activity.
