$9M Program Focuses on Stormwater Projects

Nearly a dozen cities and towns have received a share of $9 million through the state’s Stormwater Improvements Program. The Office of Community and Rural Affairs says the goals of the projects involve treatment and energy cost savings, job creation and protecting landscapes.
The program is funded by the federal Community Development Block Grant initiative.
OCRA Executive Director Bill Konyha says "we know that SIP plays a vital role in assisting our communities who suffer from flooded property or inadequate stormwater management systems. It is through programs like SIP that we are able to aid communities in providing a quality of place for its citizens and further assist in alleviating our cities and towns from the expenses and decreased property values that result from flooding."
OCRA says the recipients and the grant totals are:
- City of Bicknell – $870,500
- Town of Edinburgh – $858,700
- Town of Franklin – $1,000,000
- Town of Fowler – $1,000,000
- Town of Ligonier – $365,810
- Town of Middletown – $983,000
- Town of Morgantown – $949,000

- Town of Stinesville – $898,750
- City of Sullivan – $1,000,000

The approval process involves creating a proposal and receiving a community site visit to ensure the project is in-line with the CDBG objectives.
