$5M Grant to Grow Indiana Humanities’ Footprint

Subscribe NowIndiana Humanities says a $5 million grant from Indianapolis-based Lilly Endowment Inc. will help expand its reach, programming and partnerships statewide. The organization says part of the funding will support staff and set up an endowment to pay for maintenance at its historic headquarters.
Indiana Humanities says the support will help serve more Hoosier communities over the next two years.
Chief Executive Officer Keira Amstutz says "we have a lot of wind in our sails right now and we want to use that energy to have a broader impact. This gift from Lilly Endowment will transform Hoosiers’ access to the humanities across the state through enhanced local and regional programs and through robust communications strategies to connect communities to humanities resources."
Its recent statewide initiatives include ALL-IN, Food for Thought and Spirit of Competition. Indiana Humanities says key strategies for the years ahead include: innovative programs reaching more communities and better serving rural areas, investments in emerging humanities leaders and increased grantmaking via a pooled grant fund.
The grant is among 14 recently announced by Lilly Endowment to boost arts and cultural organizations. Annually, Lilly Endowment supports more than two dozen arts and cultural organizations.
