Five Indiana businesses are included in Forbes’ inaugural “Best Small Employers” list.

The publication defined a small employer as a business employing 200 to 1,000 employees. The ranking evaluated employers on factors such as comprehensive benefits, development programs and a diverse workplace.

Forbes partnered with market research firm Statista, to compile the list using anonymous surveys, job site tracking as well as social media, blog and news sites.

Indianapolis-based law firm Ice Miller LLP is the highest-ranked Indiana company at No. 28. Centier Bank in Merrillville is ranked No. 57, followed by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology at No. 67, Goshen College at No. 166, and senior living community Greenwood Village South at No. 229.

“Our faculty and staff help create a special, caring campus community that we all cherish, so it’s very rewarding to see Rose-Hulman recognized as one of the nation’s outstanding small employers,” Rose-Hulman President Robert Coons said in a news release.

The finalists were distilled from a pool of 10,000.
