Indianapolis-based Flanner Buchanan is celebrating its 140th anniversary by donating land to Flanner House for three greenhouses to provide fresh produce in an area known for being a food desert. The donation of 1.5 acres of land is valued at $140,000.

The funeral services company says the greenhouses will be built in the Riverside neighborhood on the west side of Indy.

“I take great pride in my family’s 200-year history in Indiana and we’re pleased to partner with Flanner House on this unique greenhouse project,” said Bruce Buchanan, owner and chief executive officer. “The Buchanan family has been interwoven into Indianapolis since the city’s founding in the 1820s.”

Flanner Buchanan says the greenhouses are expected to create 12 to 15 full time jobs with a groundbreaking set for April.
