The airport says the land will be developed into a $60 million, nearly 630,000-square-foot warehouse for Amazon (Nasdaq: AMZN).
The sale of the land to IXD Fort Wayne LLC and Indianapolis-based Ambrose Property Group is valued at more than $4 million.
The airport authority says it has worked for the last several years to prepare the site, located along Airport Expressway near Franklin Electric Co. Inc.’s (Nasdaq: FELE) operations, for such a project.
“This is exactly the type of project that we worked to attract to the Airport district while protecting FWA’s operations,” said Scott Hinderman, executive director of airports. “This allows the property to be put on the tax role and contribute to the economic strength of the community.”
The Federal Aviation Administration released the land for non-aeronautical development “with restrictive covenants designed to ensure airport compatible use of the site,” according the the FWACAA.
A timeline for the construction of the warehouse, or a potential number of jobs it would create, was not immediately clear.
Earlier this month, Amazon opened a new delivery station in Fort Wayne, plans for which were announced in June.
