TechPoint says the challenge sought solutions to COVID-19 related problems and provided Indiana college and university students a five-week internship experience.
The live Zoom event is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. where three finalist teams will present their ideas to Governor Holcomb.
TechPoint says the winning teams from each category will receive a $2,500 cash prize.
“The students came up with a stunning array of ideas and products. Our judges report that they have had a hard time trimming the list down. The students really took this seriously and impressed us,” said TechPoint President Mike Langellier.
The challenge’s nine category topics include: workplace and work-from-home environments, tourism, schools and colleges, restaurants and small businesses, COVID-19 outbreak detection, community organizations, telehealth, transportation, and sports and entertainment.
Ball State University student Sean Wolfe and his team worked on a proposal called Checkfirst. The website provides visitors with public health and safety information from Hoosier businesses, and users can review businesses on their level of COVID-19 precaution enforcement.
“The Challenge also gave me an opportunity to learn a lot about Indy tech, which I’ve learned to appreciate and love,” said Wolfe. “Originally I didn’t think Indiana has a lot to offer in terms of tech jobs, but now I understand just how much opportunity there is for me here as a software developer and for anyone who wants to be in tech.”
Collectively, TechPoint says the challenge is providing more than $250,000 in stipends to Indiana students.
