(NYSE: ALSN) has been awarded a $35 million contract from the U.S. Department of Defense to produce transmissions for the Army’s M113A3 armored personnel carrier.
The company says the contract represents a production relaunch of the X200-4A cross-drive transmission, which is designed for light-tracked combat vehicles weighing up to 16 tons.
Allison says it began deliveries of the system in June and will continue through March 2022.
“Allison is committed to providing the most reliable products to our customers, reducing mechanical downtime and allowing crews to have more time to spend on training and mission readiness,” said Dana Pittard, vice president for defense programs at Allison Transmission.
According to the company, the M113A3 remains the Army’s single largest armored vehicle fleet with nearly 5,000 vehicles.
These vehicles provide medical, combat engineering, command and control, and indirect fire capabilities.
