The city is partnering with the Sullivan City Redevelopment Commission and Divine Construction on the effort, a second stage of Sullivan’s “They Gotta Go” program, which officials say has eliminated more than 80 unsafe structures since 2013.
The property on West Donaldson Street was the first property acquired by the City Redevelopment Commission and the City of Sullivan provided funding to demolish and clean-up the site.
According to officials, the project aims to set the stage for more private-public partnerships as well as creating safe and comfortable neighborhoods to boost the community.
“Eliminating blighted homes – these neighborhood eyesores – was just the first step in our process. Constructing new homes increases the assessed value, continues to progressively curb population decline and increases hope in our community,” said Sullivan Mayor Clint Lamb. “Where folks live makes the biggest economic impact.”
The house is slated for completion this fall.
