The Lydick Bog was bought by the Shirley Heinze Land Trust in 2015 and includes upland forest, wetlands and former agricultural land. Portions of the 176-acre property include a rare habitat for northern Indiana due to having four distinct wetland types: a large bog on the northeastern section of the property, emergent wetlands, shrub-dominated wetlands and a transient pond on the north-central section of the property.
The move means Indiana now has 288 state-designated sites protected by the Nature Preserves Act.
