Governor Eric Holcomb has presented his $34 billion biennial budget to the State Budget Committee. The budget calls for a 2 percent increase in school funding each year, as well as an additional $286 million for the Indiana Department of Child Services.

Half of the state’s spending in the biennium will be dedicated to K-12 education, according to the budget presentation to the committee. The budget does specifically call for an increase in teacher pay, which has been discussed as a major priority for some legislators.

In addition to the increase in DCS funding, the governor is also proposing a more than $200 million increase in Medicaid funding for the next two fiscal years. Holcomb says he wants to end the biennium with approximately $1.8 billion in reserves.
